John Bearoff

Dr. John Bearoff is both a Licensed Psychologist in private practice, and a Certified School Psychologist. He is also a lead trainer for Newman-Stecher International's Masonic Student Assistance Program (SAP) Training. He earned his PhD in Counseling Psychology from Bryn Mawr College in 1984, his M.A. in Psychology from West Chester University in 1975, and his B.S. in Physics from Ursinus College in 1970.

John spent 24 years working in Pennsylvania public schools, including 12 years as a junior high science teacher. In 1987, John became responsible for initiating and developing the North Penn School District's Student Assistance Program for Drug and Alcohol Intervention, and also their Alternative Education and Suicide Prevention programs, all of which were widely recognized as both innovative and effective. He also was the SAP Coordinator of four teams assisting 13,000 students in the district.

Dr. Bearoff's career, both in education and private practice, has been focused on helping adolescents, and he has specialized in the areas of raising self-esteem, stress management, grief/loss, substance abuse prevention, suicide/crisis intervention, and conflict resolution. John has also served as a school psychologist and consultant for the Colonial, Methacton, Souderton, Upper Dublin, Upper Merion, and Wissahickon school districts. In addition, he served as chairperson of Upper Merion's Safe Schools Committee, and helped to establish a district-wide Safe Schools prevention and intervention plan.

John has been conducting workshops and seminars for school districts, service organizations, church and community groups for over twenty-five years. He is a co-developer of "Adventures in Education", a unique series of experiential, action-based teamwork seminars for school staff and students. John has also been presenting similar teambuilding seminars for corporations such as Bell Atlantic, Prudential Insurance, SmithKline Beecham, Merck, Sharpe and Dohme, Fleming Foods, and Penn Mutual Insurance.

Dr. Bearoff has had a private clinical psychological practice since 1984, with offices in East Norriton, PA., and Doylestown, PA. His practice has specialized in the areas of raising self-esteem, stress management, motivation, career counseling, psychological evaluations, grief/loss, and the use and teaching of Hypnosis and Biofeedback. He has been nominated for the International Hypnosis Hall of Fame.. He has received Montgomery County's "Outstanding Service to Youth" Award.
